Wii…It’s 2009!

Tino joins the fans for the T&T party

To start the 2009 year off on the right note, we want to thank all those who came out for the Toys and Toddies Party!!

Over fifty DC United supporters took the time during the busy holidays to donate cash and toys so that United for DC could continue its tradition of making the Eleanor Holmes Norton’s Christmas party a resounding success.

Not only was it fun to gather together in the off-season, but it was great to have Santino Quaranta come out and have a little fun playing Wii with the fans.

For those who would like to see the smiles that the toys brought and get a chuckle or two yourself watching Ben Olsen work his elfin magic - click on the video from Access United.

This event would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of fellow SE’s. If you would like to become more involved this year in the club, just drop a note to outreach@screaming-eagles.com

Volunteers are welcomed with open arms!! Whether you want to help out with one of our community outreach efforts, assist hosting a viewing party, flip a few burgers at a tailgate, paint banners for Tifo displays, write for the Nest Liner, etc. - there is always something that you can dig into.

Heck, if you have some hidden talent that you think you might be useful or ideas for the coming season - we heartily encourage to you to get in touch with us!

Happy New Year!!

The gang at SE World Headquarters wish you and yours all the best for 2009!

Time to Rumba in the Tundra

The Screaming Eagles are announcing a road trip for the USA v. Mexico match in Columbus, Ohio, February 11, 2009. The match is on a Wednesday night, kick off time TBA.

We are offering two packages. The first is for a hotel and ticket which is APPROXIMATELY $110 based on double occupancy (we won’t know the exact price until we get the final price of the tickets from US Soccer). The hotel is the Drury Inn and Suites (a couple of blocks from the bar where the USA supporters hang out after the match) and where the American Outlaws are staying. The hotel has a free HOT! (they emphasized the point) breakfast, three free alcohol drinks in the hotel bar from 5:30-7 on the night of your stay, free internet and one free hour of long distance per night.

The second package would be a ticket only for APPROXIMATELY $50.

All we need from you at this point is a confirmation that you would like a ticket and hotel room (including your total number of people) or just a ticket (total number of tickets). DO NOT SEND A PAYMENT AT THIS TIME.

As far as transportation, we can look into getting some vans and caravaning. If you can help drive a van your transportation cost is free but you do need to be over 25, have a valid driver’s license and insurance (and obviously be a sober driver). Let us know if you’d like to drive or if you need a ride.

If you have any questions or you want to sign up, send an e-mail Jimi Butler at roadtrips@screaming-eagles.com

Happy Holidays!!

The gang at SE World Headquarters wish you and your kin a very happy holiday season and all the best for the coming year.

Congrats to the Terps!!

It's Zusi TimeBehind the scoring heroics of senior Graham Zusi and a stifling defense, Maryland Men’s Soccer hauled in another trophy down in Frisco. No one could find a way to score on the Terps as they won the 2008 NCAA National Championship. Well done to Sasho and the lads from College Park!

There is no way to downplay the significance of this feat. It appears that while the fortunes of the local MLS side may have dipped a little over the past few years, this local college program has flourished. The championship press release proudly notes the accomplishments:

“The title is the third for the Maryland men’s soccer program and the second in the past four seasons. Head coach Sasho Cirovski now boasts two national championships, as do departing seniors A.J. Delagarza, Michael Marchiano and Zusi, who all played reserve roles in the 2005 championship. The 2008 edition has set what Cirovski coined as the `gold standard’, setting a school-record for wins (23) and shutouts (15) in a season as well as winning both the ACC and NCAA championships. The Terps will take a 16-game winning streak into the 2009 campaign.”

We extremely grateful as fans to be able to watch a college program succeed again in our area! Thanks for a great season. Feel free to share your favorite moments in the comments…
