New Defender, New Membership Method

DC United opens the 2024 MLS season this Saturday at 730pm against New England. But first, a program note: the Screaming Eagles have moved to digital membership cards and a new signup/renewal system. There is a QR code on the top of the website home page for the younger members who use their phone like a third hand; there are old-fashioned hyperlinks scattered throughout the site (including at the top of the website home page) for the less phone-oriented and more computer-oriented among us. Either way, you will get a digital card rather than a physical card and will show that when entering the tailgates.

Now, back to soccer: DC brought in a new defender last week. Welcome to Conner Antley (photo above), who was signed from the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the USL Championship League. Conner is 28. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia and played college soccer at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. He spent a year with the Seattle Sounders under-23 team, and also played for the South Georgia Tormenta (USL League One, third tier after MLS and USL Championship) in 2018 and 2019. Conner was named USL League One Defender of the Year after the 2019 season.

Conner moved to the Indy Eleven of the USL Championship in 2020. Indy paid a transfer fee to the Tormenta, which is rare at that level of US soccer. He played one year with Indy before joining Tampa Bay for the last 3 seasons.

With Steve Birnbaum sidelined for a few weeks, Antley will bring some extra defensive depth and experience for a very young defensive line.

Welcome Conner!
