A Scoreless Draw

DC 0-0 Montreal, March 15, 2025

DC United played well (especially in the first half) but could not score and drew, 0-0, with CF Montreal last night at Audi Field (March 16).

At the first non-freezing home game of the year, DC's starting lineup was the same as last week:

Kim in goal

Schnegg, Rowles, Bartlett, Herrera on defense

Enow, Kijima in defensive midfield

Peglow, Pirani, Stroud in midfield

Benteke at forward

Subs: Servania for Kijima (60th minute), Peltola for Enow (60th), Murrell for Pirani (73rd), Zouhir for Peglow(83rd), and Fidel Barajas (making his DC United debut) for Stroud (83rd).

Benteke had a nice move to score in the 27th minute but the ball touched his arm during the buildup and it was disallowed by VAR. An unfortunate but fair call. Pirani missed a great chance in the 34th minute, and Stroud had a good chance in the 52nd minute that was well saved by Montreal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois. Montreal hit the post and the crossbar. The possession was fairly even (51% DC to 49% Montreal). DC had 15 shots (6 on goal) to Montreal's 10, and 6 corner kicks. DC's passing showed improvement from the first three games but they could not break through.

Followup from last week's blog: there is a new MLS Timed Substitution Rule this year. If a player being substituted does not leave the field in 10 seconds, the replacement must wait until the first play stoppage after 60 seconds to be allowed on the field (hence Peltola's 2 minute wait on the sidelines before being allowed on). Thanks to our wise Outreach Director, David Goodwin, for enlightening me.

Next game: at Orlando, Saturday, March 22, 730pm Eastern. We will be missing Peltola, Rowles and Herrera to international duty.
