I Read the News Today – Oh, Boy!!

Mexico can't stop the surge

Both Sides of the Rio Grande are Cheering

Did you watch the epic Hexagonal final matches being played in the wild and wacky CONCACAF?

Words fail to describe the scenes that are reminiscent of the old ABC Sports “thrill of victory, agony of defeat” montage. Sportsmanship of the highest order from Klinsi’s contingent as they played their hearts out to the bitter end.

No question of any cynical tanking of a match despite helping their biggest rivals in the process. Our players ended their run by emotionally consoling their opponents on the field after having ripped out the hearts of a nation.

Perhaps the Mexican announcers demonstrated the passion best, “Gol Estados Unidos! We love you! We love you forever and ever! God bless America!”

Orozco, Zusi and Johannsson are the kings of NAFTA!

Thumbs Up for the INTEResting News

As if that wasn’t exciting enough – how about the announcement that our principal owner has added to his futbol family!

Erick  Thohir, along with two additional Indonesian business partners, announced today the signing of a binding agreement to become a controlling shareholder of the Italian club Inter Milan (Serie A).

“Through a greater focus on soccer properties and synergy between them, these dealings will result in a deeper commitment from me to the continued growth of D.C. United,” Thohir explained. “We will return D.C. United to its place as a top  club in America while building a global brand for the most accomplished team in MLS history.”

“I’m happy that Erick has taken the lead in bringing this to fruition,” said Levien. “Inter Milan is among the most iconic clubs in the world and, as this moves forward, it presents opportunities that can enhance the futures of both United and Inter.”
