Footy Film Fest Oct 16-18
Kicking & Screening, a soccer film festival dedicated solely to celebrating the “Beautiful Game,” presented by AOL sites Going, when.com, and Fanhouse, rolls into Washington, D.C. Thursday, October 15, just one day after the United States World Cup qualifying match against Costa Rica. A portion of the proceeds will benefit America Scores and its local affiliate DC SCORES as well as United for D.C. The Screaming Eagles are working with the organizers on a possible event on Oct 17 (between the end of the DC United game and before the midnight showing of Victory).
The festival’s schedule features four films, special guests and a poetry reading:
October 15 at The French Embassy– The screening of “Les Yeux dans les Bleus,” which documents the compelling and surprising story of France’s 1998 World Cup Champion team.
October 16 at Busboys and Poets – A soccer poetry reading followed by directors Alex and Christopher Browne introducing their film “Sons of Sakhnin United,” a powerful documentary which follows the only multi-ethnic team in a small Arab town in northern Israel and its struggle to survive in the Israeli Premier League amid the ethnic tensions that plague the country.
October 17 at E Street Cinema – A midnight screening of the classic soccer film “Victory,” which tells the story of a ragtag team made up of Allied prisoners of war suddenly recruited to play a match against the German National Team in Paris, with featured actor of the film and former Cosmos star Werner Roth expected to be in attendance.
October 18 at Avalon Theatre– The night’s feature “The Big Green” is a kid-friendly film about an English teacher who transforms an underdog gang of rascals into champions. Free admission for all kids under the age of thirteen.
