TONIGHT July 7
U.S. Open Cup Continues…
Quarterfinal
D.C. United-Harrisburg City Islanders
Tuesday, July 7
Maryland SoccerPlex
Kick Off 7:30 pm
These two teams have met before, back in 2007 for the first round of the U.S. Open Cup that year. D.C. United supporters who braved horrendous rush hour traffic
up to a steamy (and stinky, it’s farm county) high school stadium in Landisville, PA will be looking to take home their own pound of flesh tonight (even us vegans!) The Islanders beat United 1-0 and thus bounced them from the Open Cup. Grrr!!!
TICKETS $25 Available at the ticket window at the SoccerPlex
There’s no tailgating at the Soccerplex (but they do have a beer garden inside, hopefully more beer and better selection will be available for this game then the last one). We recommend hitting Dogfish Head Alehouse on the way to stadium, (800 W Diamond Ave, Gaithersburg). We hear SE President Paul Sotoudeh will be stopping by the Alehouse (if that’s an enticement!)
TOMORROW July 8
2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup Round 1
Wednesday, July 8
RFK Stadium
Grenada-Haiti-Kick off at 7 pm
USA-Honduras-Kick off at 9 pm
The CONCACAF Gold Cup is the biennial nations championship for North and Central America and the Caribbean, and is the confederation’s premier event. The Gold Cup evolved from a series of championships in the region dating back to 1941.
TICKETS: $40, available at the SE Ticket Window
Screaming Eagles Nest (Sections 132-134 and some seats in the 200s, NOT GENERAL ADMISSION)
American Outlaws/Sam’s Army (Sections 127-131, GENERAL ADMISSION)
Pick up the tickets at the Screaming Eagles ticket window in the white supporters trailer near Gate B on July 8 starting at 6:30pm.
TAILGATE The Screaming Eagles will be putting on a full tailgate for this match and ALL US supporters will be welcome. The tailgate
will be at the normal Screaming Eagles tailgate spot in RFK Stadium Lot 8 and will run from 5 pm-7 pm (food service will start shutting down at 6:30 pm so you need to get banded before then to get any food). Tailgate will feature grilled food options, snacks, and beer. If you can volunteer, please contact Thea (we could still use help at the membership and drinks tents). If you can come early to help set up that would be greatly appreciated (contact Jeff). If you can bring a side or a dessert (both are much needed), please contact Suzanne.
The cost of the tailgate will be $10 for ALL US supporters. If you plan on coming to the tailgate, please PayPal your purchase of tickets to payments@screaming-eagles.com and indicate your name, Gold Cup tailgate, and the number of tickets you will be purchasing in the comments field of your payment. Cut off for pre-sales is 5 pm, July 7 (otherwise stop by the membership table). Previously purchased SE tailgate passes will not be honored (bring them July 18).
NEW T-SHIRTS ARE IN!
A few of us will be modeling them at the U.S. Open Cup game tonight. Stop by the merchandise tent on Wed if you’d like to purchase one.
NAFTA TRIP UPDATE
August 10-16
Road Trip to Toronto: A reminder that the deadline for the SE members-only ticket sale for this trip ends on July 10 (this Friday). After that we will open it up to every Tom, Dick and Mary. We’ve already sold half of our ticket allotment so it’s going to be a big trip and we’re sure there are non members who want in so don’t delay in signing up. Details about this trip are here. If you have already signed up, get your payments in (that secures your tickets) and make sure you respond to the invite for the Yahoo planning group (people are looking to share rides or possibly get a bus from Buffalo, NY). Contact Jimi for more information
Mexico City: We should have an announcement regarding game ticket and hotel packages any day now (really!) for the U.S-Mexico game. Hopefully you’ve gotten your plane tickets already (or get on it!) As this is another hot ticket we will be selling these to SE members first and then we’ll open it up to the hoi polloi. There is also a Yahoo planning group for this trip so respond to the invite if you’d like to join up with others for sightseeing trips, etc.
If you do not have a 2009 SE membership card, you’re not a current member. Don’t miss out on these trips and other exclusive events like the SE Meet the Team party coming up September 26. Take care of business here and come back to the family! If you have membership questions, contact James.
