Watching in Wonderment

Are the Futbol Gods shining on Miami?

Don’t despair, there is plenty of futbol to keep you entertained during the winter months. Even if you missed the SE pickup match, the DC United equipment sale, the Superclassico between Barca and Real Madrid or even the Toys & Toddies party yesterday, there’s still hope for you yet!

First, settle into the old barcalounger, click on the Deuce and cheer on some college action as the Maryland Terps take on UNC down at Pizza Hut Park in the NCAA final.

Second, I highly recommend this read about Barca’s scoring binge by Sid Lowe. My favorite line:

“It’s simple,” says Guardiola, “I’m happy when we’re in the opposition’s half and not happy when we’re in our own.” The defending starts from the front. Messi, Henry and Samuel Eto’o have committed more fouls this season than centre-backs Puyol, Rafael Márquez and Piqué. “I prefer pressuring the opposition to scoring goals,” says Eto’o.

Third, if not having any good news surrounding a new stadium has got you down. Let your thoughts drift to the various potential offseason moves that have been bantied about. The most amusing thus far has to be the Galaxy’s efforts to snare a winner, which has resulted in this gem:

“The offer came from the Los Angeles Galaxy of the United States. I didn’t even want to listen to the details,” Carvalho commented.

Finally, if player moves don’t get your juices flowing quite yet, how about the battle royale over snagging an MLS expansion slot? Pity we won’t be taking any roadtrips to Montreal real soon.

Time for some more Fusion action!!

However, that does bring us back to Barca - anybody for fun in the sun in Florida? Seems like Deja Vu, all over again… then again, wouldn’t you prefer a roadtrip that involved Biscayne Bay rather than some other options?

Feel free to chime in with your own thoughts about DC United in the offseason and the world of soccer in the comments section!
