Nest Liner: Dominos

Chain Reaction

Roster moves are starting to come a little quick for United this week.  A couple of weeks ago, Niell was waived, Carvallo’s contract was converted to a month-to-month deal (bet the Red Bulls wish they used that tactic with Claudio Reyna) and waived him today.  And it’s not a surprise considering James Thorpe has been the backup keeper for the last four matches (2 Open Cup, 2 SuperLiga)  Newcomers on the roster include Francis “Where’s my Passport” Doe, Craig “Doug” Thompson, and Joe Vide (nope, not going to go all Chris Berman in making silly nicknames….just not going to go there).

Simple addition, and other higher order match techniques (none of which really apply in the MLS world) reveal that United has one additional roster spot, and the team is down from three goalkeepers to two.  But Steve Goff has indicated on Soccer Insider that United is bringing in a couple of midfielders for trial.  Conceivably, they could be competing for the same job (integrating two new midfielders midseason seems like a chore), but then Untied is still down a keeper.  Is there another roster move brewing?

The positive news, New York is entering their annual midseason housecleaning season by threatening or actually getting rid of half their club.  The more things change…..
